Charles & Lina, Outstanding in their Field! PDF Print E-mail

I must say, Charles and Lina look good and are outstanding in their field :)

We are going to town, sorry for all the cliché’s, but we are really making progress and its very exciting.  After 28 years in the business I am still moved by seeing the structure of a building erected to its complete shell.

The SIP’s add to the affect due to their efficient design.   I have been asked before about the pros and cons of SIP’s.  The first question seems to always be “isn’t the crane expensive”?  The cost of the crane is offset by the amount of production accomplished in a few days.

A crew of four for a few extra days would add about the same cost as renting the crane.  In the long run, it’s worth it plus there is value added through the ability to have better workmanship because the crew is able to concentrate on installing the panels and not lifting and supporting the weight.

You also have to remember the safety factor; having a 300lb roof panel fall on your head would put you in a bad mood.

Our next step will be to frame the wraparound porch.  This will not be just any porch; this porch will be constructed using steel columns and beams and have an interesting rail design. I can’t wait to show it to you!

We're "Cookin" with Gas Now! PDF Print E-mail

For you laymen out there this means we are in the heat of production now :)

Our SIP’s have been delivered which means real production has begun.

The beauty of these panels is not only the energy efficiency but the ability to erect the structure in a matter of days.  We also designed this home with pre-engineered wood floor trusses.  This contributes to production while also being a green building choice.  Because trusses are precut there is very little waste on site.

This is also true of our SIP’s.  We had the wall panels and openings pre-cut at the factory so there is no waste or foam insulation on the site.  The insulation waste is difficult for us recycle on the site.  We plan to mulch most of the wood waste and reuse it on site for landscaping.

The next photos show just a couple of the great views the Harts will have once they are able to move in and enjoy their home.

Ahh... I love the smell of floor trusses in the morning!  We have framed the basement walls and installed most of the floor trusses.  Thanks to Ray and the guys we have gotten off to a good start on framing for the project.

We have also installed the concrete forms as seen below.  These will serve as the base for our steel porch porch columns.

We should receive our SIP panels within two weeks.

Today, we poured the concrete column bases for our steel porch posts.

We have completed the shop drawing review phase and have ordered the SIP panels.  The drawing below shows FischerSIP’s rendering of the panels used on our project.

It will now be about 4 weeks before we see delivery of the panels.  Meanwhile, we have ordered the floor trusses and plan to build the basement walls in about 2 weeks.

It’s about to get exciting at the Hart home!
