We were happy again this year to participate in the 2009 Pink Bandana Ball for Emily's Power for a Cure. This is our third year and we have made a commitment to be involved every year they can put up with us.
I want to thank Artisan Barret and Eric and all the volunteers who helped us with the General Store facade and Diamond Mine.
As usual, the food and drink was outstanding and the fellowship will be remembered a life time.
This past Saturday we started building the wall panels for the western style storefront we are building for this years Pink Bandana Ball. The Pink Bandana Ball is fundraiser to benefit Emily’s Power for a Cure Neuroblastoma Fund and is set for May 3 at First Tennessee Pavilion.
We are building the storefront in 4' x 12' panels for ease of hauling and installation. We start with a simple frame and then add plywood to the face. We then cut out the door and window openings.
Artisan Eric (aka Eric Bischoff), shown here cutting out a window opening, has been a great asset to the team. As you can see he is very proud of his work :)
We stack the panels in preparation for the next phase which will be making the doors, windows and trim components of the storefront. Our next project update should include pictures of the doors and windows so come back soon!
Our western style storefront turned out great and we will be expanding next year. I want to thank Artisan Eric and my son Barret for their help the day of the event. After the event we worked till 1:30 AM dismantling the storefront and hauling it to our warehouse.
I have never really paid much attention to the Pavilion's structure until I started photographing it this year. We should be proud older structures like this are being used and preserved in lieu of being demolished and replaced with a fake stucco storefront.
Also, thanks to Holt Webb. I stole the picture above of Nancy, Wendy and Melissa from his Vanishing America blog J Check it out. He is crossing the country in Babbs to document things he feels may not be around for the next generation.
